My Preliminary Task

During the production of my preliminary task, I had to use programs such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesing to produce my front cover and contents page. This was the primary challenge that I had to overcome, due to the fact that I had never used these programs before. Also, I had to take my own picture for the front cover and I did this using a digital camera, also, I enhanced the picture on Photoshop, and I manipulated it a little. I found this a little difficult as well, as I had never done it before, and therefore I needed some assistance, however, with a bit of help, I soon got the grips of the programs. Although I didn’t use InDesign much during the production, I also felt that despite the minimal use, I still learned how to navigate my way through it, and I hope to use it extensively during the production of the music magazine.
For my preliminary task, I took inspiration from past issues of our own school magazine, and from here, I developed my ideas. I looked at the layout, colours and images used in the magazine in order to make my own magazine suitable to the audience that I wanted to aim it at. Also, I looked at the way it was written, and the way that the information was distributed. I took all of this into account because I felt that the magazine should be suitable for both the students and the teachers in the college. However, I also looked at certain music magazines in order to develop the layout of the magazine, and how different images can be used in the contents page.
Overall, I was happy with my result because I think I mirrored the simplicity and the distribution of information that a college magazine should posses. I also thought that if I did a little more practice on Photoshop, my image manipulation would be better. However, overall, I am happy with my result, and I recognize the different aspects that I need to improve on.
